Description:
Douglas van Duyne, co-author of The Design of Sites, has written a book with Website templates for a wide variety of sites. These "patterns" can help provide the conceptual leap of inspiration from information design to interface design. Read more about it here: www.designofsites.com.

Whether you are involved in building a site for business, government, education, or entertainment, this presentation will help you focus on the needs and expectations of your customers and give you the tools you need to create a satisfying and effective Web site. You'll learn:

  • The principles and best practices that make sites enjoyable to visit and an asset to the organizations they serve
  • Numerous design patterns that offer proven solutions to common Web design problems
  • Which patterns are appropriate to a wide variety of site genres and address every aspect of Web site design, from navigation and content management to e-commerce and site performance.

As a special feature of this presentation, you may optionally participate in an hour hands-on workshop during the last hour of the meeting (at no extra cost) on how to apply patterns to specific Web design issues. The audience will break out into small groups to apply patterns to the redesign of a particular site (or break away for refreshments).
