Date:
February 26, 2004 (Thursday), 7:00 p.m.
Dinner at 6:00 pm at Tortilla Coast restaurant for those who would like to join us (see directions below).

Location:
Library of Congress
Madison Building, Room LM G-45
101 Independence Avenue SE
Washington, DC 20540

Description:
Some usability professionals have formal education in fields such as human-computer interaction (HCI), information design, or cognitive psychology. Others have backgrounds in computer science, project management, graphic design, library science, or other related fields. All of us try to continue our education by reading professional literature, taking tutorials or classes, and attending conferences.

Most organizations have Web developers or teams with a wide range of formal and informal user-centered design (UCD) education. How can those with experience share their knowledge and skills with others? At this program, usability specialists from three organizations will talk about how they share usability information with their colleagues, followed by open discussion of ideas and experiences.

Topics include:

  • Collecting print and online usability resources for Web developers.
  • Writing best practice models and style guides.
  • Re-teaching: sharing knowledge learned in classes or at conferences.
  • Organizing brown bag lunches and other programs.
  • Training and developing a group of internal UCD consultants.
  • Promoting user-centered design practices in your organization.

This program is cosponsored by the Library of Congress User-Centered Design Subcommittee.

Moryma Aydelott and Michelle Rago, Library of Congress
Louis Drummond, Congressional Research Service
