When creating experiences for 2-4 year olds, we as designers have lots of opportunity to be creative, but we need to reconsider some basic visual and interaction design principles. In this presentation, Deb Gelman will discuss the challenges that come with designing for 2-4 year-old users. She'll share tips and techniques for:

research and testing

navigation

color and sound

design patterns.

Deb Levin Gelman (@dgelman) has been involved with kids and media since 1993. After a brief stint in children's television, Deb moved into interactive media, designing kids' websites, software, and virtual environments for companies including PBS Sprout, Scholastic, Campbell's, Comcast, and Crayola. She currently works as Director of UX at Nutrisystem. Deb is the author of Design for Kids: A Framework for Digital Experiences, to be published by Rosenfeld Media in 2012.

Kristina Halvorson is the author of Content Strategy for the Web , both editions. In addition to living in Minneapolis and eating cake, she is one of the world’s experts in content strategy, the UX discipline devoted to managing, creating and governing content online.
